Slay the Slew

In News Reports, Writing on May 12, 2012 at 3:37 am

I thought it was only ST journalists who have a habit of writing “a slew of measures”. The phrase popped up yesterday and again today, in the news report of the private education council. Then I turned to BT, and there it was! Now used to refer to transport measures articulated during the COI. I don’t know why but slew keeps me thinking of sewer. In any case, the phrase seems terribly over-used. What about a range of measures, a raft of measures, an array of measures….or my favourite, just plain ole “measures”?

  1. Heh, you got me thinking: “slew” comes across as sludge-like, slow oozy drippy. Maybe not the best imagery for policies, lol
